An Artist's Magic Trick

Image
So I'm still sick, and it's miserable, but today was almost okay so I put together something fun. It's part of my latest work in progress, who is not actually a dragon, but I'll tell you about that later. For now, you want to see an artist's magic trick? Keep watch for more videos and news on this adorable little bookwyrm- Whoops! Slip of the tongue. I said dragon. Totally said dragon. You must have misheard me say that other thing. ;)

NaNoWriMo: Chiseling Away Writer's Block

Image
The only thing good about being sick is getting better. I'm still not at my best, which is miserable, but I can put milk in my tea again and my brain isn't so fuzzy I can't complete a...a, um... Oh dear. But while I was sick, October snuck up on me. The bats flapped out of their caves, the word pumpkin appeared after everything in existence (not that I'll complain about that one), and the wind started to blow a little harder. Sh. If you listen hard, you can just make out it whispering. NaNoWriMo is coming... Yes! National Novel Writing Month (also known as November) is almost here! For those that have never heard of it, NaNoWriMo is a challenge for all and any authors to write a brand new novel (50,000 words) in the space of one month and it is one of my favorite months of the year! And not just because my birthday's in November either... To prepare I've been brainstorming some ideas that should come in handy next month, along with advice and tips I wi

Scumbling Around

Scumbling  - the circular motion used to lay down color to keep directional lines from forming. You've probably done it before as a kid. You know. Round and round and round and round... To see what this has to do with what I'm working on, click the link. :)

The Long & Short of It Is...

So some fantastic news - I am getting my first book published! I'm super excited (and amazed it all happened so quickly, but I guess that's the nature of self publishing, even when you're paying for professionals to help you edit and all that) and I'll definitely tell you more about that soon, but right now I'm annoyed with myself. One woman told me usually it's the author that holds up the publishing process and I'm beginning to see what she meant. They want a back cover summary and that little 'about the author' blurb you find on the last page before we really dig into the book edits. I know, you'd think they'd be nothing to write after finishing a book that took a year to write, but I hate writing short! Really and truly can't stand it. My sister asked me to explain my book to her and when I was done she said, "So essentially it's-" and summed up the thing in a sentence and a half. Short just isn't in my natur

Once Upon A Bookwyrm...

Image
So, it occurs to me that I never properly introduced myself, did I? Ahem... Once Upon A Time there lived a young woman named Bethany who loved books and wordplay, and so decided to start a blog called Wish I Was A Bookwyrm to chronicle her journey toward getting her own books published, as well as to talk about writing and art, because she had traditionally trained as an artist at university. She lived in Texas, born and raised and proud of it, and did in fact know how to ride horses (although it had been awhile... >.>). She was also a huge nerd! She couldn't help it since it ran in the family, and she had a lifelong fascination with spaceships and different worlds, both the planetary kind and the ones that liked to hide in wardrobes and under the kitchen sink. And it was obvious to her that clearly Artoo was the best droid ever despite how cool it was BB-8's head could pop on and off whenever he wanted. 😉 (He's just so darn cute! <3) She hoped that her

Monday Labyrinth

Some Mondays you actually want to wake up and start your week. Others are so taxing even at eight in the morning they demand David Bowie's Labyrinth soundtrack as soon as possible. I'm definitely having a Bowied-out-of-shape Monday.

Cutting Golden Idols

So this is hard to admit but I...struggle with my word weight. The little treats are just too hard to resist! Chocolate smooth world building. Light and fluffy humor, whipped to perfection. Lemon tart relationships sprinkled with just enough sweetness to keep the whole thing from turning sour. And puns! Gasp! I never can resist a popped-corny pun. It runs in the family. I blame my dad. But add them all together and and the numbers on that word counter just go up and up and up...
